Select the lowest practical travel range and maintain a steady speed appropriate to the surface and slope. Never coast in neutral or switch off the engine while moving. |
Keep both hands available for machine controls and avoid sudden acceleration or deceleration. |
| Travel direction |
Moving across a steep slope can shift the center of gravity toward the downhill side. |
Lateral sliding or rollover. |
Follow the operator's manual for the permitted direction of travel. Avoid side-hill operation unless it is specifically allowed and controlled by the site plan. |
Stop and reassess if the machine begins to lean, slide, or lose directional control. |
| Turns and changes of direction |
Turning sharply on a slope can transfer load suddenly and break traction. |

Coordinate movements with the paving crew and monitor surface condition continuously. |

| Engine or hydraulic failure |
Loss of power or hydraulic pressure may affect travel and braking functions. |

Do not attempt improvised towing, repairs, or recovery on the slope. |
| Rollover or near miss |

| Parking on a slope |
A parked roller can move if the parking brake is not fully applied or the surface cannot hold it. |

Park on level ground whenever possible. If temporary parking on a slope is unavoidable, follow the operator's manual, apply the parking brake, place controls in the specified position, shut down safely, and use approved chocks or restraints where required. |
